The Crayon Box

Hello! I know it has been forever and a day since I posted on here but I had so much fun with this latest project that I just had to share!

I found these adorable ceramic crayons in the dollar section of Target! I fell in love with them right away and knew that I wanted to make a crayon box to hold them!

So I got out some chipboard and measured the crayons and starting cutting. The measurements I used are –

sides – 5 1/2″ by 1 3/8″

bottom – 8″ by 1 3/8″

front  – 8″ by 5 1/2″

back – 8″ by 5 1/2″

I used a product called Tear Mender to adhere the pieces to each other and after it had dried I used wide clear packing tape on all the edges.

Using an oval die cut as a guide I drew the semi circled line for the front of the crayon box.

Next I covered the box with BumbleBee Gingham/Linen paper from Doodlebug.

I used Darice’s wood glue, sponged it on with a foam brush and then smoothed the papers over the area of the box.

Using washi tape from WRMK I added the green lines typically found on a crayon box.

To make the label – I cut out an oval from black paper, stamped and embossed the word “crayons” and “6” using the fantastic Crayon Alphabet from Stampin’ Up! I then doodled some lines on there and wrote the word count under the number six!

Now my box was ready to hold the crayons!!

Crayon Birthday Card

For as long as I can remember I have loved crayons, and been fascinated by the colors and the designs on them.  I was so excited when – way long time ago – Stampin’ Up! came out with a stamp set called “Kid Prints”.  I was so excited because guess what it had …an adorable crayon image in the set.  With that stamp in mind I set out to make a birthday card that looked like a box of crayons!  Here is how the front looked –

A crayon box made from Summer Sun cardstock and stamped. "Perfect Plaids" from Stampin Up! were used to add the green lines!

When I figured out how my box would look I stamped 5 crayons in bright colors on glossy cardstock and cut them out! I inserted and attached them in the “box” so they would not fall out.  Added a message on the inside flap – ” Hope it’s colored with lots of fun!!”  Adding a small piece of velcro made it so the flap would stay shut until opened! Under the flap it looks like this:

The message appears when you open the flap and there are 5 stamped and cut out crayons attached inside.

This card has been around for many years now but I realized that I have given copies of this card to many a child to help make their birthdays more beautiful.  And I thought that this was a great time to share the idea with you!!  Thanks for stopping by – have a BEAUTIFUL day!!

Only 2 more posts to go – this one is # 48!!
