Scrappy Blog Tour

Hello!  My scrappy friends, Shellye McDaniel  and Wendy Sue Anderson asked me to participate in a

Scrappy Blog tour and I was excited to play along!

As part of the tour I am going to share answers to a few questions.

What am I working on right now?

Actually my crafting has slowed down to a crawl or even a complete stop – my dad passed away recently and since then my heart has just been too heavy to craft.  But VERY soon, like after I get my package of Doodlebug products I ordered – I am going to dig out all the pictures of my dad and our family camping and use the Happy Camper collection to make layouts to honor him and his memory!

And I just got doilies in lovely Doodlebug colors that I would like to create some awesome things with!!

How long does it take me to create a project?

I am a quick layout maker – I feel like the page should tell a story and that it does not have to be a masterpiece.  I journal on every single page I create and I feel proud each time I get a photo out of a box and onto a layout in my kids books!!  As far as cards go – I like Clean and Simple.  Don’t want to spend more than a half hour or so on a card!! Sometimes a project will spark my interest and take an extra long time but usually I have to be quick since I have oodles of pictures to scrap and many upon many cards to send!!

What are my favorite things to create with at the moment?

I adore using anything from Doodlebug Design – they create the best products and I have a few ( kind of an understatement!) of them – Here is a picture of some of the items I have collected.

This happy yellow pegboard stands in my craft room - it holds all my themed Doodlebug Embellishments at the ready!!

This happy yellow pegboard stands in my craft room – it holds all my themed Doodlebug Embellishments at the ready!!

I also have been trying so very hard to use all my NBUS – an acronym from Darnell over at djkardkreations meaning “Never Before Used Stuff” and boy. do I have lots of that.  I was a Stampin’Up! demonstrator for several years so I have lots of their stamps.  As I get my allowance each month I try to pick up some stamp sets from other companies!!

How does my creating process work?

For cards – it seems to be challenge driven lately or because I need a certain card for someone!

For layouts – it all starts with photos that need to be scrapped.  I am trying to keep it even and scrap something of each person and then start that cycle again!!  Sometimes I get really inspired with one child’s photos and really go to town!!

How do I become inspired and stay inspired?

By visiting the blogs of all the creative and crafty people I love out here in Blogland!  I visit my Pinterest boards often and try to regularly create something that came from my boards!

What is my signature style?

I wish I thought I had a style – the only thing that seems to be consistent with me is that I love bright colors and bold images and cute, whimsical icons! I don’t know any more to say about that!

So everybody that I could think of has already done some sort of this blog tour thing recently – so I think this might have to end here – But that is okay, right?! Because all good things must come to an end!

Thank you for sticking with me through this long post!! Love having you stop by and visit!! I’d love it if you left me a message!!

I really need to express my thanks for all the kind and sweet, and so sincere comments I received after I  posted about my dad!  I think in a way I am trying to get back into blogging because I have missed many of you so much!!!

My Dad

Taunya & Dad

My heart is heavy, my eyes are wet.  The man I lovingly call Dad passed away peacefully several hours ago. He began a battle with Pancreatic Cancer in the middle of June and we (I)  have known that it was coming. And, blessedly, the hours of serious difficulty were short and he was able to depart from this world to his heavenly home surrounded by loved ones!

I am grateful that his suffering is over, and only pray very hard for my mom,my siblings, myself, and other loved ones left behind!

There is a reason I share this here on my blog – I am reaching out to friends I have made through blogging who are as dear to me as the friends who are close by.  I wish to share this part of myself with you and also help you understand why there will not be many, if any visits to your blogs that I love so much during the next couple of weeks, I will miss you all but there will be much to do as I help my mom, and my family through the funeral and change to come.  Please be thinking of me and don’t forget about me because I will be back.  Thank you so much for your friendship!

**I was invited to do The Scrappy Blog Tour by Shellye McDaniel and Wendy Sue Anderson – I plan to do it but it will be a couple of weeks – when asked to participate and I accepted, my dad seemed ok, and like things would be dragging on but this last 3 days everything accelerated quickly and now with him gone there are matters to attend to.  So look for me to be back here when I can!!

Above all, please know how much I value you all!  Your encouragement to me has meant so much!!

Be sure to hug your loved ones today!! Love to you all!!

Sunflower Birthday

To me Sunflowers mean Fall – so I thought I would make a couple Sunflower cards for some friends with Fall birthdays!! I am way excited because I am entering this card into 2 challenges.

The first challenge is over at Stamplorations – By Weekly Sketch: Challenge # 19

Here is the sketch:

I also am participating in a fun challenge over at my friend Darnell’s blog djkardkreations!

Her challenge is NBUS # 2 – are you wondering  what that means – well her badge explains it all –

button aqua use this the

So for my card I used a Stamplorations set called Vignette: Retro Mod Shapes.  I have never used this stamp set ever before! I used the circles to make two-toned centers for my sunflowers and then I stamped the leaflike stamps to make petals for my sunflowers – again in two tones!  I used the banner from this set and stamped Happy Birthday on it from another set.  I stamped on my middle strip of paper tone on tone with the circle – does not show up very well! And I used a Sissix Embossing folder to make the card background!  Okey dokey, Here is my creation:

sunflowerI am pretty happy with how it turned out considering I don’t stamp a lot of florals!! But I did create something I can use to let 2 very special people know that I care!!

Who could you create something beautiful for today?

Think about it and while you’re thinking, why don’t you leave me a message!!

Have a Beautiful Day!!

A “Happy September” Chocolate Cozy

Sometime ago I saw this idea at my Card Club that I attend at my friend and SU! demonstrator’s house!  She called it a chocolate cozy and she had gotten the idea off of SplitCoastStampers in the gallery!! Here is a link to it!  The link tells you to go to this site for a tutorial on how to make it!!

I decided that I wanted to make some of these for the office ladies, Principal and my son’s teacher at our elementary school.  I decided on the # 4 because that is how many cozies you can create from one 12 by 12 piece of patterned paper!

To make mine I cut a piece of Doodlebug Design paper that had apples on it – it was from the Fruit Stand Collection.  It was perfect for this project.  I also had an apple tag and a Doodlebug stamp set with an apple in it that I used in my decorative process. So I cut the paper into 4 – 6 by 6 squares, scored them according to the decorations in the tutorial listed above. Then folded it up the way it said to. I picked ribbon to match my paper and twine to tie it off with.  Added a stamped apple to either side and added a “Happy September” tag when I tied the twine!!

Here is a pictures of the front of my chocolate cozy’s:

Here I have given you a view from the side:

And then, finally a line-up of all 4 finished cozy’s – all ready for delivery:

They were pretty easy to make – the hardest thing was the scoring but after doing one I got the hang of it real quick – I did use my Martha Stewart scoring board for that!!  I suggest practicing on a spare piece of 6 by 6 paper so you get the hang of it and then you will always have a pattern also!

I gave these away this week and hope my recipients enjoyed them!

It was fun to add some chocolate to something beautiful and say “Happy September” to some ladies who do so much for our school!! They are always so awesome and helpful!!

Hope you will give these a try  – they really are fun and I have given you the places to go to understand how to make them!! So, please Go Forth – create beauty and share it!!!

An Apple for the Teacher

This card was made specifically for some challenges – I will list them in a minute!

I think this card will be for my son’s teacher!! Here is how it looks:

An Apple to say Thanks to your Teacher!!

An Apple to say Thanks to your Teacher!!

To create this card I used the Fall Fun set, yet another old set from Stampin’ Up! I had some red 3/4″ grosgrain ribbon and this burlap trim that I won in a giveaway that I used.  Came together very easily after I fussy cut the apple and the leaf!

I based my card on this sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch # 91 –

And I am entering  this challenge over at The Card Concept – Challenge # 18: Back to School

I feel like my card fits the Classy & Elegant style as shown on the blog!!

Cupcake Inspirations is having a challenge # 277 – Here is the photo:

Another challenge I am entering is Docerela Creations Blog – Challenge # 69: School

I am linking this up to the Simply Create Too blog- challenge # 69 Show Us Something New – what is new about my card is the burlap trim that is featured under the apple!

I am really happy about being able to join so many challenges!! And to boot, I already have a great thank you card for my son’s teacher!  How fun to create beautiful things for people!  Have a wonderful day!!

I will be back tomorrow showing you something I made for some ladies at my son’s school!!

See you then!

Get Well Soon!

I don’t make a lot of Get Well Soon cards but when I came up with this design based on a sketch – I made 3 of  this one:getwellpills

Stamp set used was an old one “Nice & Easy Notes” by Stampin’ Up! I used a polka dot embossing folder and  also added some glossy accents to the bottle of medicine!! Colored the pic with watercolor pencils and then used blender pens! The seam binding was hand died by Debbie at Paper Sweeties!

My card was based on this sketch:

Repeat Impressions#S314

I entered their challenge over at the Repeat Impressions blog – The Houses that Stamps Built.

The challenge is called What if? Wednesday – Sketch Challenge # S314

Also entered it over at Addicted to Stamps – Challenge # 112: Make Your Mark

I made this card with a dear friend’s sister in mind – she is going through some health issues and thought I would cheer her up a bit with this little piece of beauty!!

Thanks for stopping by – Love having company! Even better is company that leaves kind words behind!!

Enjoy your day and I hope you create something beautiful!!

Lighthouse Card

My mom is a huge fan of lighthouses – she has a bathroom totally decorated with them! I have always found them to be beautiful and stately and have heard many stories about those lives who have been blessed by them. I created this card with her in mind, in a few weeks she will need me to send her some love as she goes through some difficult things, and hopefully this card will bless her.

Another reason for this card is that there was a Stampin’ Up! set eons ago that had this sentiment stamp :

“A light, a compass, a beacon true, my life is richly blessed by you.”

I think we can all think of someone who has been a light in our life, helped us find direction and blessed us!

I must say that in my blogging efforts and joining of challenges there have been friends who have been a steady light, have given me direction, and encouragement, I indeed have been blessed by their light!  They are: Carol of the blog Just Me: c. She is delightful and she keeps pointing me in the right directions for joining challenges and such – her talent is amazing and you will love visiting her.  Kymona of the blog Kreative Kymona.  She encourages me to go for it and try new things – she sent me a set of cards encouraging me to Be Generous, Be Strong, Be Fearless and Be Yourself!! Her blog is definitely worth a look!  I will  from time to time be telling you about some of the amazing, awesomely talented people I have met through this incredible place we call blogland!

So here is the card I made inspired by my mom and these ladies:

This card meets the sketch for the challenge at Happy Little Stampers – here is the sketch:

I am so happy – I got to spend some more time today in my craft room and I came up with 4 more cards!! I will be showing them to you over the next 3 or 4 days.  The last card I made today is the one that I am showing you first.

I used a Newton’s Nook stamp set and based it off of a sketch from Newton’s Nook:

Here is my card – I colored it with my Prismacolor markers (I have no Copics) and used 2 punches from Stampin’Up! -the Banner punch, and the 1 1/4″ circle punch.  Used the Primary colors – always love that!! The cloud embossing folder is by Darice! This is what I came up with:

I am excited to enter this card in several challenges.  They are:
