I’m B-A-C-K!!!!!

I am so excited, obviously since I couldn’t wait til tomorrow( the day I said I would officially be back), to be back at creating beautiful things and blogging about them!!

I spent hours in my craft room on Saturday afternoon – I struggled with where to start, so I decided to give the challenges on the internet a looksie and it worked!! Ironic, I know that my first post back should be from a challenge – but frankly that is where the inspiration came from and it was easy to meet this particular challenge because I have had this idea swimming around in my head for a while!

The challenge I am entering is over at CAS-ology, week 110: Letter

Week 110 - Letter

The card I ended up creating involved some masking and using bright colors –

Using SU! stamps - Perfect Plaids and Tidy Alphabet this CAS birthday card came about! Perfect for the CAS-ology challenge - Letters

Using SU! stamps – Perfect Plaids and Tidy Alphabet this CAS birthday card came about! Perfect for the CAS-ology challenge – Letters

I showcased each letter with a Perfect Plaid stripe masking each letter in the middle – this made each letter stand out as an important part of the whole!  Anyway the idea had been floating around in my mind since I saw this pin right here! A shout out to Nichole Heady of Papertrey Ink for my inspiration!!

Smartly, I stamped up four of these cards with matching envelopes – the front of the envelope says hi! in the Tidy Alphabet and the envelope flap has the same 5 colored stripes as the card does!! I say smartly because I am running dangerously low on mailable birthday cards!  It took some time but I am glad that as long as I had all the stuff out I decided to create more than one!! I hope you found some inspiration here today and hope you find a way to make something beautiful (or cute) today!!

Also adding this card to these two challenges:  (since my friend at Just me:C encouraged me too, what a great friend!!!)

Blogging: what it is and what it is not {to me} – An Attitude Adjustment

This quote hit me hard today as I was perusing other blogs:

The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes.                                           -William James (1842-1920)

Found on Greta’s blog GG Creations as part of the header for her blog! Thanks, Greta for providing me with some needed inspiration!

What I realized I needed was an attitude adjustment – if a change of attitude can alter a person then surely it can alter me  in any area that is needed, such as blogging  – so I decided as part of my attitude altering to look at the answer to this question:

Why am I doing this – blogging?

The answer is because I Want To ADD BEAUTY To The World!!!

By sharing the things I create I hope to inspire others to create things that can add beauty wherever they are.

After much thinking and attitude adjusting I have broken down what Blogging is about and is not about TO ME – this is my blog and I am deciding to blog and connect with others the way I really want to!  This does not mean that the way someone else blogs is right or wrong – Just that for me I have figured out what is RIGHT for me, at this time!

Is About

creating beauty, sharing beauty,

sending Happy Mail to everyone I can (including You – my readers),

meeting more people to share beauty with,

and making more friends that enrich and improve my life!

Is Not About  – the numbers, as in, # of comments I get, the total number of  page views I get in a day!!  Don’t want to determine my success or my identity by #s from my blog – Instead (Attitude Alter)  I do want for people to be moved to action by the ideas I share and my promptings to them to do a little something today to add beauty to the life of someone. That is what success will look like for me – but the tricky thing is I most likely will not know when this happens, and I have decided that is ok!!

Is Not About  – how often I do it! I am going to shoot for 3 times a week and sometimes it might be more often and other times it could be less. (Attitude Alter) But I am going to have a goal of three times a week! But guess what, I might not be perfect at that but I m committed to giving it a try.

Is Not About – whether I do challenges or not! I create beauty in many ways – love notes, gift wrapping, treat notes, and just the little things I do to say You are Special to me – they are not always  cards so my posts cannot always be about cards and challenges,  though  (Attitude Alter) I have decided for me that  half and half would be a good balance.

So now with my newly altered attitudes I hope to find peace and enjoyment from blogging – and I do SO look forward to getting to know as many of you as I can ! Look for my posts to resume early next week!

I mentioned above a thing I want to do called Happy Mail – I created a new page all about it – check it out here!! Would love for you to be my most recent follower and Happy Mail recipient!!

I must say a Thank You to some fantastic blogger friends who gave me encouragement, advice and just uplifted me!  They are :

Love and thanks to all these ladies – They are each amazing!! Why not take a little look at their blogs if you haven’t had that treat already!!

Happy Anniversary, Mom & Dad

I know I am taking a break to figure things out but I wanted to take a minute and honor these awesome people –

This is my mom and dad and they have been married to each other for 49 years!!!

DSC_4628b

I want to honor them and thank them for the legacy of love that they have given to all of us!!

I made them a card and I neglected to take a picture of it before I gave it to them – But it had red on it – my mom’s favorite color, and the word forever – how long they want to be together!! I wrote a tribute about the 40 plus people who have been a benefit of their love and lives of service!!

I love you, Mom and Dad!!!

What am I doing?!???

So, I have been missing in the blogging world! I have been trying to figure out whether blogging is the right place for me! I appreciate so much all the goodness that goes on out in blogland – I have made many friends and  been influenced in so many positive ways!  So grateful am I for that!!  I am just not sure if this (blogging)  should be a focus in my life. I continually judge myself by how many views a post has or how many comments, etc. Do these things determine my worth?!?  I will continue to be M.I.A. until I determine for myself if what I am doing is what I wanted it to be and if I am being true to myself in the process.

I love creating beautiful things – but sometimes I wonder if I am just making more garbage for the landfill.  There is often a debate in my head about whether the beautiful things I try to create matter or if they are just fluff- and, if they are just fluff, then are they necessary and of any benefit to the world.  My quandary is such that I need to answer this question for myself to the degree that I am convinced that the things  I create matter – if not to others, then to me, – But then the question –  is that selfish?!?

Sorry, to post something so filled with confusion and indecision but this is honestly where I am and what questions have been rip-roaring around in my head!!  If any of you friends and followers out there have any advice on this matter – I would dearly love to hear it!! But in the end, I know that I must be at peace with myself and then move forward with my decision!!!

Thanks for listening!!  I still want to make beautiful things to show others I care –

Beautiful Things

Here is the card I made:

Made this fun, primary colored striped card using 2 old SU! stamp sets - Perfect Plaids and Smile!! I tore the edge and sponged it with red and I sponged a line of blue inside the card so it shows under the torn edge

Alrighty, then!! I promised to share about our Back to School Dinner tradition – so here goes, hold onto your seats, cuz it is a long post with details and pics of all 8 favors I created for them with a piece of advice on each one!!

And here is another pic with details about the cups and placemats – I made the placecards using scraps of penmanship designer paper and adding a crayon sticker that matched the cup color!!

The menu for this evening was build your own french bread pizzas – a particular favorite around here!! Then I also made a fruit salad to serve with it.  That is what the clear, plastic cups are for there in the center of the table!

So, let’s talk about the bags at the end of the table – they are just plain white bakers bags each with a library pocket from my banner clipped to the front of them!  Each card within the pockets has a piece of advice that starts with that letter.  The first pocket is hooked onto two bags and there are 2 cards of advice – Back and 2. Then it goes S,C,H,O,O,L!! Here is a close up picture of the bags –

Favor bags - each one has a piece of advice with a favor for my three children! Notice I clipped to the bags the library envelopes from my countdown banner with Clothespins! Each piece of advice starts with the letter on the bag!!

After our yummy dinner had been consumed by all of us – I proceeded to give the kiddos advice by pulling a card out and reading them the advice and then opening the bag and giving them the favor that went with that item!! Lots of my advice is “corny” to match the items I gave them – you’ll see what I mean!!

So card # 1 was Back – here is the favor and advice on the tag

Back To School Decor with Countdown

Last year for Back to School I decided to put up some decor and a countdown to help get some excitement going for the back to school time!! I had a small tree that sat on this corner shelf of our kitchen bench so I went to all my diecuts and papercrafting supplies to create some decorations!!

Here is our tree:

Our Back to School tree - decorated with twine bows and mini school icon ornaments and an alphabet letters garland!!

I used some ABC  circle stickers from Pebbles, Inc to make my garland.  I put the stickers on bigger circles and then sewed them all together in one big long line! For the ornaments I used stickers and diecuts – some of which I put on punched out scallop circles.  For all of them, I punched a hole in the corner and used twine to create a hanger loop.  Last of all, I took some school colored twine and tied random bows on the tree to fill up empty spots!! I used a larger die cut as my tree topper!!

Here is a close-up of the top of the tree:

On the shelf next to the tree I wanted to keep up the school look, so here is the display I made:

Made this display from a few books we had around the house! A toy school bus and an apple tied with twine completed this arrangement!

Ok, now for the countdown – I hung it in the corner of the bench and Here is how it looked:

Library style pockets banner made to hang in the corner of our bench seating area in our kitchen!

Idea came from this pin here and I adapted what Kelly Brown with Simply Kelly B did as she shared 5 fun ways to count down to the first day of school on Studio 5. She has many great ideas!  I had only a week (hers had 1o days) left til school so that is why I adapted mine and labeled them the way that I did. This countdown was used twice – once with activities to prepare us for school and then I used it at our Back To School Dinner & Celebration (post coming up next about that)!

So here is a look at how all these individual items came together to create our Back to School Corner:

Here is a picture of all the elements together on the cute corner shelf of our kitchen bench seats!!

So, there it is, a few simple things I did to make the beginning of school year a little more fun and exciting for my kiddos!!
